POST PARTUM DEPRESSION WORKSHOP

The Counseling Center, in conjunction with the Cleveland Clinic and the Wayne-Holmes Suicide Prevention Coalition, is presenting a workshop on the identification of Post-Partum Depression.  Sessions are scheduled for June 23 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Cleveland Clinic office on Milltown Road in Wooster, and at 6:00 p.m. at the Cleveland Clinic office on Cleveland Road in Wooster.  Training is targeted primarily at medical office staff and focuses on the use of the Edinburgh Maternal Depression Screening Tool as a method for identifying post partum depression in new mothers.  Presenter is Joy Stitzlein, M.S.W., L.I.S.W., Director of Community Education Programs at the Center.  Similar programs were presented earlier this month in Holmes County.

STAFF WELLNESS WALK

In an effort to promote healthy employee behaviors, Center staff are participating in a summer walking program.  Participating staff members have been provided with a pedometer and are tracking the miles they walk each week.  The goal is to walk the distance between the Center’s Wooster office and the federal office of the National Alliance of the Mentally Ill (NAMI) between Memorial Day and Labor Day.  Overall, distance is about 350 miles. The Center’s Wellness Committee is sponsoring the walk and is providing incentives and awards along the way.  Nearly 60 different staff are participating in the effort.

RETIREMENT ANNOUNCED

Retiring after 13 years with the Counseling Center’s Community Psychiatric Support service is Carol Barkey, L.I.S.W.  During her time at the Center, Carol has worked with adults with severe mental illness, focusing specifically on those involved with the court or who also struggle with substance abuse issues. Carol was honored at a luncheon earlier this month.
