CENTER UPDATE

Monthly Newsletter for The Counseling Center of Wayne and Holmes Counties

Edition: March 2010

A VALUED COMMUNITY RESOURCE

Referral sources appreciate the Counseling Center!  In a recent survey, 87% of those who reported making referrals to the Center rated their experience as good, very good or excellent. Results exceed the typical results for mental health centers across the United States who use the same survey to assess referral source satisfaction.  Items on which the Counseling Center was rated most highly include: the confidentiality of services, the respect shown to clients by staff, the friendliness of staff, the professionalism of the staff and the financial arrangements made with clients. The Counseling Center processes over 2,000 new referrals each year.

CASELOAD GROWS

As of the end of February, the Counseling Center was managing a total caseload of over 3,300 persons. There were 168 new admissions in February and the organization provided 13,000 units of mental health care.

STAFF TRAINING

In March, all Counseling Center staff completed additional training in understanding the Latino/Hispanic culture and on mental health ethics.

HEALTHY MINDS. HEALTH COMMUNITY.

The May ballot will contain a modest 1.5 mill levy to support mental health services in our community (Issue 12 in Wayne County and Issue 9 in Holmes County).  The levy will help assure continued services from The Counseling Center, STEPS, Every Woman’s House, Your Human Resource Center, Catholic Charities, Christian Children’s Home and Village Network.  Funds from the levy will support 24-hour crisis intervention; provide shelter and counseling to battered women; support families coping with job losses, marital difficulties and addictions; help troubled children become solid citizens; and help older adults who are suffering from grief and depression.

“According to a local survey, more than one of every three adults knows someone who has benefited from local mental health services provided by one of the agencies that the levy will support.”
