The Counseling Center of Wayne & Holmes Counties (TCC) offers Master’s level internship opportunities to qualified graduate students to facilitate their development in becoming highly trained clinicians preparing to work with children, families and/or adults in a community mental health setting.
Each intern develops a plan that assures a breadth of experience taking into account individualized training needs and interests in collaboration with the intern’s university program. The process of critical thinking, hypothesis testing and other elements of the scientific method are engendered and integrated into experiential activities throughout the training process. Master’s level interns at TCC are responsible for the integrative care of multiple clients. Practice opportunities may include, but are not limited to, diagnostic assessment, individual and family treatment, and group therapy, with exposure to evidence-based clinical practices. Interested applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program in counseling, social work, psychology, or related field. Strong applicants will have a basic understanding of professional practices and standards, demonstrate a willingness to be self-directed, have strong verbal and written communication skills, be able to accept constructive criticism, and be willing to apply supervisory feedback in ongoing practice. Evening hours may be required. Internship positions are not paid. |

SupervisionSupervision is an important training component of the internship. Each intern is assigned and meets with a primary supervisor to discuss clinical conceptualization; diagnosis; treatment planning; and professional, legal, cultural and ethical issues germane to the patients with whom they work. Consultation with staff clinicians including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors is supported.
